I don't think it will do you any favours. Some companies have a policy of reimbursing costs, but some don't, but I wouldn't push it.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

You would normally ask before the interview...not after.:footie:
Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

I have been to a few interviews but never asked for travel expenses. It's very cheeky! I also feel you would be shooting yourself in the foot if you really want the job!
Tescos are not forcing you to go to the interview. It was /is your choice to attend. If you really can't afford it then its tough to be honest! See if you can go by coach. It will take longer but probably a lot cheaper.0 -
Hmm, I know the company I work for has reimbursed travel expenses to interviews, when the applicant has come from quite a distance, but I think that has been for pretty specialist jobs.marlasinger0

Do Tescos not have a policy? I don't think there is any harm in asking. Might be better to phone and ask beforehand though.0

I don't think it would do any harm to ask prior to the interview. You wont be asking the people interviewing you, you'll be most likely talking to the HR dept or the agency acting on behalf of the company.'I think that God, in creating Man, somewhat overestimated his ability'..Oscar Wilde0

I think if you book in advance you may get a better price - I looked at prices from Haymarket to Cheshunt - get in early enough/in advance they say you can get £18.50 each way.
Also, try talking to the HR person and explain 'I'm in Scotland, is there a nearby centre I could take the interview at?' They may not realise it's such a hike for you and actually have a facility much closer where the local HR bods can at least do the preliminary interviews0 -
Some of the posts on the studentroom thread below (such as #88 and #89) suggest that expenses are paid for travel to interviews at Cheshunt, but they may be a bit slow to process the claim sometimes.

No harm in asking, every little helps...0

I would ask about their policy.
I did have interview costs reimbursed when I was starting out.0
