Response from Tesco re Coupons
[Deleted User]
I emailed Tesco yesterday and asked them what their coupon policy is currently, because I've been getting lots rejected by my local Tesco (Newton Abbot).
Just had this response from them:
So it looks like they should still be accepting Internet coupons according to this. Will be taking a copy of the email to my local store next time I shop, anyway (along with a whole bunch of Internet coupons - tee hee!)
If anyone wants a copy of the email forwarded to them to print out, email me a carm@tesco.net.
COUPONS ROCK!!!!!
;D
Just had this response from them:
Thank you for your email.
I was sorry to know that some of your coupons were refused at the checkout
and sympathise greatly with the concerns you have raised.
The policy for accepting our coupons includes those that have been printed
from the Internet. We accept these also at all our stores.
Any coupons, which display the Tesco logo, are Tesco specific. We only
accept these if the products referred to on the coupons are purchased. This
is because we negotiate savings with our suppliers on the condition that
these actual products will be purchased.
With regard to coupons from brand name manufacturers, we are happy to accept
one, even if you have not purchased the product. However, the coupon must be
in date and Tesco must sell the item. If you present more than one identical
coupon, then you must purchase the same number of products.
There is no set limit on the amount of coupons you can use, but the
acceptance of a large number of coupons is at the discretion of the Store
Manager.
We are also currently accepting coupons for Sainsburys and Safeway both in
our stores and for on-line grocery transactions. Just hand your coupons to
your driver when your groceries are delivered. We'll credit your payment
card back at the store. If you are in-store, just hand these to the cashier.
Please note the following:
We can only accept Sainsburys or Safeway branded coupons for money off your
total transaction.
We cannot accept coupons valid only for specific products or departments. We can only accept up to £15 worth of coupons for one delivery.
You must have met any requirements on the coupon, such as a minimum spend. We can only accept them against grocery deliveries. We cannot accept them
for deliveries from our warehouses.
We may refuse to accept coupons if they appear to be damaged, defaced,
altered or copied.
This offer applies for a limited period only.
We cannot accept coupons for purchases of tobacco or infant milk formulae.
Excludes ROI.
I trust this information is helpful. Thank you for your time.
We would like to ask you a few questions about the recent e-mail
communication you or someone in your household has had with a representative
from Tesco. If you would like to participate in this survey, please
complete the following attachment.
Your views are extremely important to us.

Thanks for that reply from Tesco's. Would like to hear what happens when you show it at the checkout

I too have e-mailed Tesco and asked for their policy as Tesco Extra in Inverness sometimes takes them and sometimes not.
I've asked for a reply on their letterhead as a normal e-mail print can easily be made up.
NO accusations made!!!
IF I receive a positive definative reply, I'm quite happy to let anyone who asks have a copy, attachment or scan.Scottish_SaverNow in Gloucester:hello:0 -
if anyone is using the whyte and mackay £2.50 whiskey token from sainsburys I suggest they remove the lines below before printing out the email;
"We can only accept Sainsburys or Safeway branded coupons for money off your
total transaction.
We cannot accept coupons valid only for specific products or departments."0 -
Hi,
After having e-coupons refused by Tesco, I asked Tesco for a definative statement about acceptance of coupons.
I subsequently received a letter giving the same answer as the many e-mails in various chat forums. However the advantage of this is the fact that the reply is on Tesco letterhead which should help if one has to argue at a store.
I have put a .jpg of the letter if anyone is interested at

Hi
After continuing to get my coupons rejected by Tesco, I too e-mailed them hoping to get a reply like the one at the beginning of this thread.
Unfortunately I have just received one (don't know how to quote it on here) saying that they will only take coupons if the product is purchased.
Looks like the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing..

Hi JezzaD,
I've made the .jpg smaller, it's now less then A4 size.
Best to save to disk (right click the link and select "Save Target As..") then open and print with a picture viewer / editor such as Microsoft Photo Editor.
Good luck,
