Cooking for some fusscitarians

Options
Hi Everyone,

I have invited my very elderly aunt and uncle round for Sunday lunch this weekend. My SIL and DB will be coming too.
  • Aunt and Uncle are very traditional in their tastes
  • I won't have chicken in my house (don't agree with production methods)
  • DB is predominently vegetarian though will occassionally eat fish when he feels like he needs some protein
  • SIL is very fussy and generally unwilling try new things.
  • The only meat she eats is chicken
  • She does eat some veggies
  • Not that it makes some difference but she is pregnant
I'm at a loss as to what to cook that will be suitable for all concerned. There is no budget. I have a Waitrose, greengrocer and butcher on my door step.

Any suggestions?

Would an old-fashioned buffet work? As you and SIL can't compromise on chicken, she'll have to eat veggie with DB, but the rest of you could have other meat.

Roast pork or lamb with yorkshire puds.

    2 choices = 1. take it 2. leave it

People can just eat veg if you do a variety.

Choice of 2 puddings 1 hot and 1 cold. Apple crumble and cream or fruit and icecream/jelly.

sounds like one of those complex brain teasers to me :D:D

How about a fish pie - traditional but tasty :)

Other than that have to second the idea of a local pub/restaurant then everyone is happy

I know... my aunt and uncle offered to take us all out and I stupidly said "oh no, it will be my pleasure!"

I think what I may do is 4 salmon fillets with a pesto crust, a lentilly something, new potatoes, green beans, purple sprouting broccoli, chantanay carrots and baby corn...

SIL can have the lentilly thing and DB can choose.

    Mushroom stroganoff?
Would you not be happy to buy a organic, free range etc chicken? A roast chicken seems the obvious choice.
Spinach and feta pie with new potatoes and salad?
    Veggie lasagne?
Is kedgeree traditional? I love kedgeree.
    Salmon wellington
Salmon in one of those paper bags in the oven, some could have traditional extras, other an oriental twist?

Nope - I have worked in the industry and know far too much about chicken farming for me to ever be comfortable to eating any of it.

Thanks for the other suggestions though... they're on the listfor consideration
