Almost a holiday win...

Options
.. I had a call from The Sun earlier asking if I remembered entering a competition for a trip to Florida to which I agreed as I only entered a few days ago as it closed today.

She then went on to ask if I had read the T&C's (which I hadn't) which annoyingly it states in them that I need to have 2 children between certain ages to go as it's a family trip. I did ask if I could take my nephews but I wasn't allowed to do that either.

Very frustrating, still waiting for my first holiday win after the Boots/Barcelona fiasco - thought my moment had came!

Has anyone else ever had this happen?

Hey ho - maybe next time!

Oh dear. I enter family holiday one as I would too take my nephews. I do not think that is very fair as they are family so should have honored it!

You sound very laid back about it, I can imagine most people would be devastated. Hopefully there's something better on its way to you.

That's a shame, from what I've read on here most companies are reasonably flexible about holiday wins. Did you ask if you could pay any excess for the different ages?

No, she didn't really let me speak much to be honest - I don't know if they were ringing round trying to find someone who actually fitted the T&C's but she seemed pretty firm when I asked if me and my partner could go or if we could take relatives... strange as I thought from reading previous wins that most people were fairly flexible and especially with it being with The Sun I thought I'd have some leeway maybe?

I'd be really upset actually if that had been me
I'm a single mum with a 14 year old son, so I enter the holiday comps thinking that they'd let him take the other adult place and they wouldn't need to spend out for the 2 children's airfares etc.
    I didn't realise they'd be so strict

I'm guessing it was this comp here?

I wonder what they would have said if the winner was a single parent with 2 kids in the correct age range, but no 2nd adult - would they still have denied them the prize ?

(and yes, I should have read the Ts and Cs more closely but honestly thought that promoters would be a bit flexible. oh well!)

Oh that's such a shame, I really feel for you. I remember that one and in particular the t&c's as I decided not to enter. We have one son over 2 but the other is still cooking in my tummy(!) so technically wouldn't fit the criteria, so decided not to bother. I must admit though that my main reason not to enter was because there's no way we could go before baby comes in July and eldest starts school in September so not really practical for us.

I so hope something spectacular comes your way to make up for it, that's a particularly difficult one to lose out on :( xx

Shame you weren't allowed to take your nephews.

It still would have been a "family" trip, so i think it's unfair.

I guess with things like this, it depends who you speak to?

Presumably as they wouldn't have met the T&C's of entry they would not have been confirmed as the winner.

From what I have seen there is often some movement on these, like upgrades, adding additional passengers etc.
This was a bit unusual in the strictness of the ages and not allowing flights to be upgraded, they must have got it as a very cheap deal. Also no transport costs in the UK, no meals, no insurance and no spending money.

I remember going to enter this comp but reading the T&Cs and changing my mind. My children are 12, 9 and 4 and I've always told the hubby he has to stay home with our pooch if I did ever win a holiday (he doesn't have a passport anyway) - I thought for this particular comp it was a bit mean for them to say 2 adults over 18 and 2 kids 2-11 only. I'd always assume as my daughter of 12 is regarded as an adult :rotfl: that she'd take the other adult place.

You should have said that it didn't state that the children HAD to be your own.

I think it was a bit mean of them not allowing you to take your nephews instead. They are technically still your family after all.

What a huge pity for you, I do hope Karma comes back round to you and you get an even better holiday xxx
