Why do music (and film) companies £$%$$ on those who still buy physical media?

Went to but a copy of Nick Cave's new album a couple of days ago. Out of stock. Apparently it is not being reprinted. !!!!!!?

Instead I downloaded/stole a flac of the music. Why do publishers not care about their remaining consumers?

From poorly remastered music to no booklets in films what is going on? Why is there such a contempt for mugs who still buy their media?

  • If you mean Push the Sky, according to his official website it's only the Limited deluxe cd/dvd book edition that's out of stock - both the normal cd (£10) and the £90 boxset edition are still available. http://www.nickcave.com/

Plenty of new & marketplace copies of the standard cd on amazon + the cd/dvd edition is available from marketplace for £20.93 upwards.

Looks like it really was limited.

You're lucky to get it on physical media; we never have sold through these channels, as it's a business risk I've avoided completely.

They have had to drop prices dramatically in response to online media, and so they are trying to cut corners to maximise profits. To be honest, I can live without DVD booklets. You don't buy a DVD to read a booklet.

I bought Push the Sky on vinyl :D (not the box set, nice but too expensive) - I will *always* buy vinyl if available (never liked CDs, but I'm fine with digital) - and like most vinyls I've purchased in the last few years, it came with a code for a free mp3 download of the album, which is something that I do appreciate :) and so I don't feel hard done by :p though my Pro-Ject turntable does have a USB output so I can digitize if necessary anyway and have done most of my record collection as it is actually reasonably small at around 500-ish vinyls.

Yolina - I'm afraid your '*always* buy vinyl' posture is severely undermined by the revelation that your turntable has a USB. ;)

Vinyls never were particularly practical in the car :rotfl:

Still not very practical is it, having to change over after each track while driving. And wondering where to store all the 7" in the car...passenger footwell maybe :rotfl:

And where's the "walkman" version? I actually still have the Sony walkman that my parents bought me in 83 or whenever it was... Still working but I don't have a tape deck anymore :p
