Spotlight - Electricity theft

Anybody watch the Spotlight edition the other night where they were focusing on electricity theft and tampering with meters?

They managed to talk a wee Sammy into coming round to a terraced house in Belfast and filmed hip "chipping" the meter, then as he left the house they confronted him and he was away on his toes before you could say electricity bill!

Laugh.... I laughed so hard I nearly paid my rates

Seems he was advertising his services on a well known online selling website.. His reaction to the camera crew was, "yer havin a giraffe!"

Where i use to live the guy next door fiddled his electric, he said it's easy. He'd just frilled a hole and pushed a 6" nail in to stop the dial going around. I expected a bang one night and both houses going up in flames. And they had little kids, dread to think what would have happened if one of them had touched that nail.

Used to work with who came from Forensics. He said he had a magnet taken from a mine that that had been recovered from the bottom of a police car. Stuck it on the bottom of his meter to stop the wheel turning round.
He said one day the leccy man called round to read the meter and he didn't have time to remove the magnet. Leccy man saw it and apparently said "Fair enough" and did nothing about it.

and the programme highlighted that the electric suppliers know by meter useage who's rigged their meter box but arent really interested in doing anything about it and are passing on the costs to those who play fair, just look how easy it was for the beeb to get wee sammy!!

Interesting how "Wee Sammy" was able to tell the nice man from the BBC how half the houses on the Ormeau had their meters bypassed ! Wonder has anything been done about it?

What does the device that "wee Sammy" fitted actually do? Does it stop the meter, slow it down or wind it backwards?

Is it a permanent fixture or does it have to be removed before the meter reader visits the house?

I cant see how people get away with it unless they never let the meter reader in.

And no I'm not thinking of getting it done !!
