Browsing the site recently, I came across a recipe which involved suet, onions and bacon. I can't find the thread now for love nor money, does anyone recall seeing it? The only remotely similar recipe I can find is for dumplings with a link to a tourist board website. I was going to make the mystery recipe for supper tonight:rotfl:

  • Would it have been for a Bacon and Onion Roly Poly Pudding?

    8 oz S/R flour
    4 oz suet
    cold water to mix
    Salt and Pepper to taste.

    Chopped onion
    Chopped Bacon
    seasoning
    dried sage

Make a suet pastry with the flour suet and enough water to make a dough. Roll it out into a rectangle, not too thickly. Sprinkle filling and herbs over rolled out dough and leave space round the edge of about 1/2 inch. wet the outside 1/2 inch and roll up carefully from the short sideand pinch the edges to seal them, wrap in greased greaseproof paper after making a pleat in the paper to allow the pastry to expand as it cooks. Wrap again in foil with a pleat in it and very tightly seal the edges to keep the water out. Cook in boiling water (kept at a nice steady simmer) for an hour and a half to two hours.

    Hope that's some use, Lyn.

Either we're both going mad or you're not imagining it! I read something along those lines, got a hankering for trying it, bought some bacon and couldn't find it for love nor money using all manner of MSE search techniques! Then googled and an MSE OS page came up pretty high on the google search but not the page we both saw. And stupidly I didn't bookmark that page either and on the next attempt at googling I ended up with a goodfoods or allrecipes page or something similar.

Long story short, the recipe was similar to MrsLurcherWalkers and it was a big hit when I made it on Tuesday so its now firmly within our mealplan rota!

Used to love bacon & onion roll/pudding, haven't eaten it in years though.
