Making meals that can be popped in oven later

spanish style chicken casserole (chicken breasts, tinned toms, onions peppers olives)
beef stew
lamb curry (diced lamb, tinned tomatoes, curry paste, veggies- cooked like a casserole)
pies with various fillings
quiches with various fillings
lasagne
pasta bake - what about a canelloni style dish with pasta tubes, spinach and ricotta with a tomato sauce and grated cheese on top.
chicken stuffed with garlic soft cheese then wrapped in bacon/parma ham (they just have to stick it in the oven for about 30 mins) serve with veggies and potatoes - these could be ready prepared to be roasted alongside the chicken.
tuna turnovers - tuna mixed with white sauce, in triangles of puff pastry. cook until golden brown in oven with potato wedges
Chicken pilaf - chicken browned off, added to casserole dish with rice, veg/chicken stock and rice and veggies. Just throw in oven until all cooked through and all liquid evaporated.
emmmm....I will post more if i think of anything else.
Good luckr.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
I batch cook the following every fortnight, freeze and then just pop in the oven when I get home for myself and OH:
Lasagne (meaty, or spinach & ricotta & mushroom - if using ricotta, keep tomato sauce thick rather than wet if freezing)
curry
Chili con carne
Shepherds Pie (or cottage)
Salmon potato pie
Bolognaise
That sort of thing... or spinach and ricotta dumplings, stew, etc x0 -
How about fish pie - fish, white sauce, veggies if you like (peas are good), top with mashed potato. I think Saint Delia has a good recipe on her website.
Macaroni cheese - good, hearty comfort food! You can chuck some sauteed mushrooms or peas or something in it to make it truly one-pot, no veggies to cook on the side.
Check out recipes for tagines - Morrocan/Middle Eastern stews, meat-based, usually include some kind of fruit (apricot or plum) and spiced with cinnamon. Not as sweet as it sounds! Great with couscous.
There are risotto recipes you can do in the oven - again, check out Saint Delia's website.
Pasta bake: some kind of meat (chicken is good, so is tuna), veggies, tomato-based sauce, cooked pasta, mix together, top with grated cheese, bake. Or top with a cheese sauce and some cheese. Or use a cheese sauce instead of tomato sauce. Can be varied greatly depending on the veggies, meat, sauce and pasta shapes you use.
Gratins - sliced potato, layer with things like tinned tomatoes and other sauteed veggies bit like a lasagne, bake until the potatoes are soft all the way through. Make sure the top layer is potato, chuck some cheese on top.
Damn, why are these ideas easier to come up with for other people? :rotfl:0 -
I'd go with the gratins - they are yummy!!0

Cheese and potato pie, mashed potato mix in some cheese and chopped spring onion. Put in a oven dish and then put in the oven when needed to heat through and go golden brown. Can add a tin of tuna or cover the top with bacon for variation too.The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 10

What about nice Spanish meatballs?
I use half good pork sausages half beef mince, onions chopped very finely, plus a dash of smoked paprika. Mix all together in a bowl and shape into balls.
Put on the hob to seal and brown.
In the meantime chop finely garlic, onion and peppers, and put them on to saute gently.
Take meatballs off the hob and into an oven dish.
Add chopped tinned tomatoes to the onion and pepper and stir through. Pour over meatballs. Cook in the oven for around 20 mins (depends on the size you make your meatballs).:A :heartpuls June 2014 / £2014 in 2014 / £735.97 / 36.5%0 -
What about aquiring a slow cooker. That way you will have hundreds of recepies and they dont even have to put the oven on !
Failing that: Chilli. Pre prepared cold meat salads. Quiche. Pizza. Various pasta bakes that just need finishing off."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." My hero, Mr Steer.0
