Barclaycard have taken money I don't owe

Hello all.

I've been lurking on here for a while for advice but have only made one other post (which I now can't even find :o )
Apologies if this isn't the right section for my post

I have managed to tackle a big chunk of my debt thanks to a generous loan from a family member. Still a big chunk to go but I'm getting there!

I paid the entire balance on my Barclaycard at the beginning of Feb so I now don't owe a penny to them.
However, in January I had set up a payment plan of £200 per month to be paid from my debit card on the 28th of each month.
This was before I had spoken to my family about my debt and thought it was the best course of action at the time.

When I called them at the beginning of Feb to pay the balance, I queried the payments I had set up and they said there were none showing and as I had 0 balance, no funds would be taken.

Well, £200 has been taken from my account this morning!!
I'm currently at work so can't call them just yet but I thought I'd ask on here to see if it's an easy thing to rectify or if this is likely to keep happening until the 12 months are up. Also, how quickly will they repay me?

Hoping someone can advise me please.

Many thanks

    Hi Struggling,

You will probably find that you've set up a standing order between your bank account and Barclaycard. Standing Orders will continue to pay a fixed amount from your account to the recipient until you tell your bank to stop paying them despite there being no balance on your Barclaycard.

You should contact your bank immediately and ask them if this is the case and instruct them to stop the standing order. You should then contact Barclaycard and ask them to refund your "overpayment" as it's now put you in credit. They should do this straight away but it might take a few days for the funds to get back to your account.

    Hope this helps a bit.
    Kind regard

  • Thanks Gelly.

I did just have a look at my direct debits and standing orders on my online banking and there isn't anything to Barclaycard at all.
I'll try the bank first though and see what they say
