yellow split pea help

second attempt at making yellow split pea soup and still they are a tad hard...first time i soaked over night and cooked with veg then blitzed a wee bit - 2nd time i soaked over night, cooked in pan for good 20 mins then put all in slow cooker - nipped home at lunch time (5hrs) and still some of the peas are hard ....Any advice would be gratefully received

    I've found the same with some split peas too, no amount of cooking or soaking seems to make them fall apart.

    I now buy Sainsburys own or Whitworth's if I can get them - I really don't know they stay hard - it's a recent problem for me (last 2 or 3 years), I didn't have any problems for over 30 years...

    I'd agree totally. Awful quality the last few years regardless of brand. Tried long overnight soakings etc etc. I have stopped even bothering as I ended up throwing away good food as it tasted like it had grit in it. Also the hours of gas for simmering was irksome!. I use red or green lentils as a replacement for most things.

    Shame that though.
  • phew least it Isn’t just me haha! I felt I must be doing something glaring obviously wrong! Oh well – its not that its not edible just would have preferred softer
