Faulty Watch-Help!!

Hi all!
My fiance bought a Christian Dior watch from Goldsmiths less than 3 years ago. Within 12 months the battery died, which was replaced under warranty. Now the battery has gone again! Goldsmiths say because it is out of warranty that it will cost £70 to repair!!
Now is it not unreasonable to suggest that the battery should not go twice in 2 1/2 years?? Another watch repair shop suggested that the mechanism may be faulty and is draining the battery.
Can i suggest to them that the watch is not satisfactory quality and that it has not lasted a reasonable length of time!! Sale of goods act etc etc...
The watch cost £1400 by the way!!!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Before you do anything, it is probably worth contacting the manufacturer and find out the specifications of the watch with regards to average battery life.0

I agree with the previous poster - ask them. My watch battery goes about every year - 1 1/2 years, and I've always taken it for granted that that's how long it's supposed to last.

Fair enough though, my watch is about 20 times cheaper than yours!

A watch battery is usually expected to give about 12 months use, depending of the functions on the watch. Obviously if the watch has a double read out (dial and digital) or an alarm etc then batteries will not last much past the 12 months.
I suggest going to a watch battery fitter who deals with Varta or Sony batteries as they tend to last longer. The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 10

If I had paid £1400 for a watch, I would expect better service from it than that.
My watch cost £2.99 from Lidl's, keeps perfect time and is on it's original battery that has lasted 3/4 years now.
Oh and it came with a 3 year warranty..0 -
£70 for a battery, they are having a laugh:rotfl:0

I would get a quote from a local independant jeweller for the battery - I doubt if it will be anywhere near £70!!What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

To be honest, if its just the battery thats gone i'd take it to your local watch repairer, ideally a reputable one as they have the tools to open it there and then and then replace the battery infront of you, the batteries are a standard component.
It is only the battery right? Even £70 for goldsmiths is a little steep.0 -
Fianlly got a reply from Goldsmiths after writing them a very stern letter.
They basically said because the watch wasnt serviced when it had its last battery replaced that it was probably dirty!! and that the mechanism inside may be draining the battery!!! They finished the letter saying they would not be fixing the watch unless i paid!!
A letter to Dior is already on its way!!
Jordan.
Ps Thanks for the help.0
