Running Costs - Car

Hi,

My company doesn't give me a car allowance every month but they do pay 40p for the first 10000 miles then 25p for everything after. My friend says to claim back the difference but I'm not sure what he is on about. Does anyone have any advice on what can be claimed back?

I drive a 2.0 petrol saloon, 40000+ a year.

Thanks

milenia

in your case there is nothing to claim back. If you were being paid less than the HMRC approval figures then you could claim the tax difference. however, your employer pays the HMRC approved figures.

Indeed nothing to claim back as you already are on the maximum approved rates...I would consider getting a diesel or LPG conversion with that kind of mileage so that you end up with more money in your pocket...
