Can't afford repairs
Options
Hi,
I have a car that still has 10 months left payments left. I have been having problems and took it to an official ford dealer who gave me a massive quote for repairs using official ford parts (over £2,000). I was advised to go to a private mechanic who could probably do it a lot cheaper, which he did. except he didn't do as much as they said was wrong and i had to take it back to him because he didn't do that properly. i got it back yesterday and its still not fixed properly. I can't afford to get the job done properly, but can't sell the car because i don't yet own it. any advice on what i can do with this car?
thanks

If you can't DIY there's not much choice. Perhaps lay it up and SORN till you can afford repairs. This is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0

You can sell the car. The buyer would need to pay the finance company and not you that's all.
It will put people off but it is doable especially if the car is worth more than the remaining payments.
Your bigger issue is flogging a car that doesn't run properly as it is 'spares or repair' and thus worth a lot less.
I'm assuming as it isn't being fixed under warrenty that this isn't a lease you have and instead is HP/personal loan? What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
The guys in the trade will not thank me for this, but if it runs and has an MOT, PX it for something else. The dealer will settle the finance and you may well be able to replace your car with something similar/newer for no change in your monthly payments when you swap HP/Finance deals.
I know a lot of peeps dont rate HP/Finance deals, but if they are what works for you, then thee is no reason why you shouldnt continue to use the facility to get out of this situation.
If it makes you feel better, PX it at a main dealers, obviously not the Ford garage that have seen it already0 -
And the issues with it are?
Fixing a car yourself for the 1st time can cost more in tools than a garage charge to do the job.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Quick to judge
Some of us live in flats, or properties with no parking or secure parking, so in poor light and wet conditions and a car parked in a kerb. By the time you have worked out how to do it the sun has gone in and your fingers like frozen icicles.
Do not know why he did no get second hand parts though, unless it was a clutch or rings etc?0 -
