  • Your caravan, as in an asset? If so what is it worth?
  • Hi jessie-jane

I thought I'd post something positive as the last 'exchange' was probably a bit of a kick in the teeth, which I suspect you don't need.

I've been through bankruptcy myself. I'm almost 3-years out the other side and life is a lot less bleak. I'm not sure how you have held it together if you were advised in 2010 that bankruptcy was your only option. That's a very long time to live with the sort of anxiety that would bring about!

Having looked at your outgoings, it may be an idea to focus on bringing your monthly food shopping bills down. I started shopping at ALDI, for example, and it really did save me a LOT of money. Worth seeing if you can do the same and put a little bit aside for the bankruptcy fee each week (if that's the route you're going down)?

I know being in debt can leave you so worried that you just can't think straight but try to stay calm. It's probably a bit cold to escape to the caravan at the moment but you can always drink that bottle-cap full of wine you're "allowed" .. ;-)

Stay strong .. you'll sort this.
  • Thanks pixelppl.. these words are a good comfort on a bad down day like today. I'm not to sure how we've managed since 2010 but i think we just keep paying the token payments but havent had any spare cash to save 1400 for the BR fees.
I will try ALDI but Mr t is closer to me and i ve never been able to get a full shop at aldi and so have then had to do several trips instead of 1 and thus costing more in petrol than i have prob saved on the shopping , if that makes sense.

Possibly since we may be talking about a very cheap bottle of red?

Which is a darned sight cheaper than, for example, fruit juice?

    Re-the holiday?

Well, I get the feeling the SOA somewhat reflect items that are allowed by the IS in a bankruptcy.

And...setting aside a 'sum' for holidays is one of those items allowed!

[recognition that the BR individual may well have a family to consider...and holidays are thought-of as basic family essentials. I'm not suggesting a P&O cruise..although a week in Malaga can be cheaper than a weekend in Margate.....?]

As Fermi says, once BR there are no safety nets.....

however, part of the purpose of the SOA is to identify if a surplus is available for the BR estate....it is therefore reasonable that the BR individual takes some advantage of categories of expenditure allowed.

[I have commented before, haircuts are allowed for....the OR doesn't, however, check to see if the BR has hair in the first place.]

What is important to note is, the OR doesn't actually check or expect the BR to spend in every category...how the BR individual distributed their allowances are entirely up to them.

When comparing what we do, with what others do, there is a good chance things get misleading.

For example, when considering the running costs of a car [exempted as an asset].....given my knowledge, experience, and 'profession' I know I spend but a fraction of the amounts I see quoted in SOA's on here.

But not everybody has the know-how, or even the ability, to conduct all their own servicing and repairs, major& minor....which is what I do.....[if I can be bothered]...

What is or is not acceptable re expenditure wasn't the OP's original question! The thread is "we have have no choice".....

The thread should have been called "can someone else please pay my BR fees because I don't want to give up any luxuries" :D

!!!!!!!! You constantly read cases on here were people are entirely screwed....then... well!!

It's not supportive or constructive to pat people on the back & say its all fine because you're entitled to xxxx......

I've never paid a for a service or MOT in 20 years,.what does that prove?? I've also gone without holidays & other luxuries for the past 8 years to pay back 42k in debt.....because I spent it!! It was my debt!
  • That is not helpful, this is the bankruptcy and living with it board, and people come for help and support not a lecture, everyones circumstances are different and ability to cope with the debt situation
vary. Well done to you for handling your debt, but some people need advice and reassurance.

    well, bully for you!

If you read my post, I refer to the SOA.

Your comments appear to take that SOA literally.

If the OP wanted help with how to budget, then one of the other useful forums on this site will suit.

But really, the OP wasn't concerned about detail budgetting...but how they can arrive at potential BR...given what they knew at the start.

Comments about alcohol and holidays don't work.

I'm very certain my lifestyle wouldn't be tolerable to many on here.

Accumulating money for fees is simple...stop paying non-essential debts!

But many newcomers to this level of dealing with their debt don't realise this is a course of action they can take.

I've mentioned elsewhere, bankruptcy & dealing with it starts from the very moment the decision on this course of action is made.

The actual petition could be many months down the line..it doesn't matter [except with certain provisos]...

what most DCA's seem to rely on is the sheer reluctance of debtors to go as far as BR..or even consider it.
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......
