Bread in the dishwasher?

Is this a first?

Living out in the sticks I always keep the odd bread mix in the cupboard in case of a proloned period of bad weather.. As I'd got one that was nearly out of date I decided to make it today, but have nowhere warm enough to leave it to rise.

As my dishwasher had fairly recently finished a programme, I decided to put the loaf (in tin and covered with clingfilm) in there and see what happened. It rose quite well!

Haven't tried the bread yet, but will report back......

    Hi sara,

I have always found leaving the bread in a cool room for longer gives a slower rise and in my opinion makes better bread, so I'll be really interested to hear how your bread turned out.

I'd imagine that the dishwasher acted just like a proving cabinet - a nice warm damp environment :) It's exactly like what's used in bakeries to make the bread rise more quickly ... although I'm not sure about the bubbles ;)
