What is a prove it letter?

I have been trying to contact Arrow Global for WEEKS as I noticed a default on my credit file from about 4 years ago. They said they couldn't help to identify it and (even though it's in their name on the credit file) and passed me to a debt recovery company called SRJ.

SRJ couldn't give me any information other than that it was originally from Orange and the amount (£186 or so) no account number/mobile number or anything.

I contacted Orange myself (I don't think i owe them anything) they were able to give me a little bit more info (account number) but no mobile number or information about the debt... they told me to go to arrow global....

Since then I've requested the information several times (they told me to go back to SRJ and I told them no as it was their name on my file). What now??

I've seen a few people mention a "prove it letter" on here and wondered how that works? Is there a suggested template or is it just what i'm doing already? Can I report them anywhere for not responding to my requests or providing the info?

I add also that SRJ are not chasing me for the money... I've had to ring them and ask!

Template is here (or in the sticky threads at the very top of the forum) Letter when you know nothing about about the debt - AKA "Prove it" letter

If your issue is with an unknown default then you can amend it to say that you have noticed a default on your file, rather than in response to a letter from them.

Then what if they can not prove it? Can you get it removed?

If they cannot prove a debt exists then yes you would them ask them to remove the entry from your credit file, including the default.

If they don't then follow up with a formal written complaint. If the they still won't remove then the next step would be to contact the FOS.

Thank you for the link I've sent a copy of the template letter off so we'll see what they come back with.

    Thanks again x

How long do you wait, I mean how long should I give them to prove the debt exisits?
