You have to be very careful with some of the stronger cleaners, they can ruin the finish of your tiles or floor. I just use a steam cleaner, brings the floors up lovely and clean without any damage.

Generally day to day, few drops of washing up liquid and stardrops, plus some disinfectant. Personally I hate flash, waste of money and you get a build up of sticky that attracts more dirt.

When I had sturdy tiles, I used to once a month or 3 months depending, get down on my hands and knees with a scrubbing brush, hard smokers toothbrush for the grout and a paste made up from barkeepers friend. Takes a while. Then once as clean as it could be, coat it with http://www.google.co.uk/products?q=klear&aq=f klear floor shine. If you do it thinly, spreading with a slightly damp smooth cloth(old dusters are great for this, old fashioned dish cloths leave streaks), there is hardly a shine at all. But it makes cleaning so easy and the tiles themselves do not get dirty. I did it in a rental once, on lino, and the LL thought I'd replaced his floor!
  • Hi everyone I am decorating my kitchen and i would like to find something strong to clean my floor tiles with usually i just use bleach but it doesnt bring them up very well, I have a dog and he leaves the kitchen so messy when he comes in from the garden, any ideas for cleaning the tiles would be great

I use water and a microfibre mop :) Gets rid of most things, otherwise i use a plastci scourer and elbow grease.

We have an existing thread, so I'll add thsi one to that to give you more ideas.

  • I have just had my bathroom fully tiled and I am wondering how to clean the tiles other than by hand. My home has laminate or lino flooring so I am wondering if it is worth investing in a steam mop? Has anyone used it for wall tiles? Any recommendation for a brand?

Instead of buying a steam mop, which is only really for floors, I would buy a steam cleaner that you can use to clean just about anything. I've got a Polti, it comes with quite a few attachments so I can do floors, tiles, paintwork, windows, defrost the freezer etc.

    This is mine:

  • I have a little yello steamer but find that the pressure isnt great for cleaning large spaces - hence the reason I was looking for something that was designed to large flat surface cleaning.

  • Hi,

I have just replaced my kitchen door fronts, but this has made my tiles look very shabby! Can you lovely people tell me what you clean your tiles with?

    Thanks
