I must confess that as a newcomer to windows 8 from XP I was a bit like a fish out of water (I haven't even used Vista or Windows 7). I may not be getting the best out of it but I now ignore the new start screen and go straight to the desktop. I don't use the new mail thingy as we've got Office 2010 so I installed Outlook 2010 and use that although it took a while to get my Virgin(NTL) email working. The Virgin helpdesk advised me that I was better using Outlook than the inbuilt windows8 mail as they'd had to deal with a lot of problems from Virgin customers.
We got a Windows 8 laptop from Father Christmas - I'm tech savvy but it does my b****y head in.
It took me ages to work out how to find the settings (and does each time I try to find it). Even using the normal desktop, they have removed the Start button so you cannot get to anything easily. Go anywhere near the edge of the screen and it switches to something else ...
It may work well on a touchscreen but IMHO does not work as well with a conventional keyboard, unless of course it is just me getting used to it (I normally use a Windows7 or XP based computer and laptop).

Yes there are a lot of nice friendly people that go there (and some that aren't of course). I sometimes pop down at whoopsie time for just for the chat and the thrill of the chase. Whoopsying is one of the few blood sports that hasn't been banned:rotfl:Awaiting a new sig0 -
