I mentioned exactly that on FB a few weeks ago. On a local talk show they had some scientist or other on and they asked him what exactly had been found in the recalled products. The answer was horse DNA. When asked if there was any way of differentiating between a fine cut of horse and say the guts, eyes or other nasty bits, the answer was no. So do you really think if people are cutting corners by replacing beef with 'horse' they would do so with the best cuts or the stuff destined for incineration? Kinda ruins the "there's nothing wrong with horse meat" argument :o

For some of these basic range products, you need to ask if the guts and other nasty bits of horse would be worse than the guts and nasty bits of cow. Or worse the fillers and other stuff that make up the 60% that isn't real beef/ horse meat etc

Forgot to mention, went to Tesco's today and bought a few things including take a break and thatslife magazine, till lady charged me for 2 takeabreaks which are 14p more expensive.

Off I toddled for a refund to CS, who gave me 14p, I turned away and thought no I'm going to say something, turned back and said sorry but shouldn't that be 28p for DTD on an overcharge? Grudgingly give another 14p! My 1st ever DTD!

Well they say it comes in threes.

First we had BB with her bingo win.
Then Markz with his £1000 co op win

And now QRB with her 14 p DTD:rotfl:

    Well done to all:)

I agree that traceable approved horsemeat won't harm you but does anyone yet know what the origin of the horsemeat is? It could for all we know have been declared unfit for human consumption and destined for incineration until someone decided to pass it off as beef assuming that nobody would notice.

If they can't trace the horse they almost certainly can't trace the beef,

Agreed,I wouldn't feed some of the processed meat products to a dog....

however this horse meat was most probably certified fit for human consumption in France, where it is widely sold and eaten, it's just that we as a nation don't eat it.

Since the BSE problems a lot of the "nasty bits" eg spinal cord etc have to be removed from beef in a well regulated environment. If unregulated horsemeat from unknown sources is getting in does make me wonder about even the "beef" being sourced from distant parts of europe.

On the rare occasions that I do eat meat it will only be from reliable source. I know David. agrees with me and will only have meat from a reliable source.....i'e. my supermarket trolley:rotfl::rotfl:
