What a difference a year makes...

It's 12 months this week since my lightbulb moment. Since Martin made me a tart :o , I have cleared about half of my debt and become the OS Queen of Mean! I now have just one CC debt at 0%.
Behind the scenes, my beloved OH has quietly cleared an amazing £15K off the mortgage. If we can keep this up, I will be debt free in 12 months, and we will be mortgage free in three years. :T
A year ago OH was facing potential redundancy due to company merger (but escaped it) and I was maxed to the limit on my cards and a loan. I'm so relieved to have had my eyes opened in the nick of time.
Tell me what has the last 12 months meant for you?

    Newleaf, that's fab!

The last 12 months for me has really been about standing still financially. I hoped we would clear our debt this year, but instead we decided to do something FAR more expensive and have a baby!

But we haven't done what we were worried about, which is slip back into old habits and end up back in out-of-control debt, and all our unsecured debt will be clear by September 2008, plus we should have enough saved by then to buy a caravan/folding camper so we can start having some holidays....yipee!

Hi a year ago I was £4000 in debt. I had a huge debt on 2 Credit cards. I tarted as well to 0% for 12 months. I paid off the Credit card in 6 months and half the loan. I still have a few months to pay off the loan. I hope to pay that off in 3 months.

wow newleaf you have made excellent progress! and for oh to clear so much from the mortgage too :T well done both of you!

the past year for me has been a rollercoaster. thirteen months ago I broke up with my ex, he had lived with me and as well as paid half the bills paid more than his share of food etc when I had no money. It was more my decision than his but adjusting to living by myself was a very hard thing to do. After a few months of struggling I found this site, had my lbm and never looked back since. In the next couple of weeks I'll hopefully pay off the last of my debt thanks to a remortgage to put in central heating (won't need all the equity for that) having cleared more than half myself, and I'll be saving up for my first holiday.

In short the last year for me has meant independence, from men and debt!

    Well done newleaf! :T

I haven't got a clue what the last 12 months has meant to me. Not a lot to be honest. Seems to be just another 12 months of my life wasted. But hey, look on the bright side and all that! :) :rotfl:

Oi! From your sig it looks to me like you have cleared a lot of debt in not much longer than a year? I know that you have been a huge inspiration to me over the last year, as well as a reliable source of laughs when things get dull, so please don't be down hearted :T

Cracking news, especially the mortgage. 15 months ago, my head was breaking though the sky and looking down at the beach in Sydney Australia, and my life had no prospects. Now I have paid off almost 20% of my debt, I am happier in life and we have been able to start a family.

SS you're being way too hard on yourself - you're making amazing progress with your debts and keeping us all entertained on here in the process!

When you build a house, you have to lay the foundations first - the foundations aren't that visible, they're not very pretty, and they take a lot of time, but without them the house will fall down.

Ummm....there was a point in there somewhere........

Oh yes, you're laying the foundations for your future, definitely not a waste of a year!

(am I talking pregnancy b*ll*cks again?!?!)

    Congrats Newleaf!!!!!

I second Snaggles. OH and i decided to have a baby, due this Friday!!! Gulp!
On the plus side, we have continued to clear debts (this will now grind to a halt due to maternity leave, with only the min on cc's being paid), and have not spent on cc's since our light bulb moment - other than to balance transfer.

Everything is now on 0% which is our biggest achievment, as this time last year we couldn't get any 0% cc due to our credit rating.
Just planning in general has been getting better over the past 12 months, and we have some money saved (as all debts are 0%), just in case we come unstuck during maternity leave.

A little over a year ago, we would have though b*gger it, just stick it on card and we'll deal with it later!!!!! :o
    What's he building in there???
Debt at highest £30,450 (Dec 05)
    Debt at lowest £9, 113 (Jul 07)
How much did we over spend whilst on maternity leave
