Contribution-based Jobseeker's Allowance
It's paid for six months maximum , savings are not taken into consideration.
To qualify you need to be seeking work, under state age pension and have 2 years contributions ( 2 years are currently 2010, 2011).
BUT although savings don't matter if you have a work pension you loose pound for pound.
So a millionaire who worked 2010 & 2011 can get the full amount but someone who has paid into a work pension can't.
Can any one explain why ... is it just another way of reducing the unemployment numbers as it's possible to have a work pension in your forties if you started work at 15 and have 20 + years before state retirement.

I imagine the reason is that the pension is an income replacement product.
If it helps, there is a £50 disregard before the pension is deducted from your JSA.0 -
I don't think under current rules it's likely that many people in their forties would be receiving a pension. And in most cases where people are receiving a pension before their normal retirement age (either state pension age or the age specified by the company scheme) it will be because they have elected to take it early, so why should they then expect to get CB JSA?0
