Hi
I'm making my own wine all this summer and hoping to make enough to last the year, so its going to be a couple of hundred bottles, any good ideas out there on how to store it? Wine racks seem to be pricey but if anyone has a link to a cheap source. Any other ideas?

We keep ours in the loft, under the stairs, in the shed - anywhere where we can find space. It's always fun to open the xmas decs box and find one or two bottles of the fantastic wine that you thought you had long since guzzled were crammed behind it when you had nowhere else to store it0

Have a look on ebay or freecycle for people who are giving up brewing and getting rid of all their gear. We got 2 large wine racks for our cellar this way. We also tend to store bulk wine in sterilised glass demijohns and only bottle it when we need to (avoids corking problems too). It's best to keep it all somewhere cool like a cellar or garage.2009 wins: Signed Saxon CD, Solar Torch, Drumsticks, Priest Feast Tix, Watch, Hammerfest tix :beer:0

I find it easier to store in the demis, and only rack into bottles when I'm ready to drink it. Charity shops always seem to have some demis in, or try freecycle. It will definitely cut down on the space you need. I've got about 40 gallons ready, but because they're spread about you don't notice them as much.
Otherwise you could build a narrow winerack in a spare room, floor to ceiling, just a basic framework. I know someone who added more shelving to an old wardrobe and used that. It depends on the space you have.

Waterproof the storage area and check regularly. You're bound to have at least a couple explode. If you think reality makes sense, you're just not paying attention!0
