Debt reappeared on credit report after bankrupcy :/

Hi all.

I successfully (lol at the irony) claimed bankrupcy in August 2012 with no problems. However I recently recieved a threating letter from Halifax telling me to pay back the £12k credit card I had with them (but that was listed in the order). Just figuring that it was their mistake and they were trying it on I just ignored it for a week, but it was bugging me so I signed up to Experian this evening.. the debt is listed on there!! I had a current account with them that had an overdraft of £2k that isnt on the report, so I know they know that I claimed bankrupcy, and all my otehr debts with other companies are wiped off. And I am 100% sure that I included it in the order as I have a copy of the form on my laptop which I have checked. So what the hell?! >:( It was bad enough having to swallow the pill and do it all in August, but I figured that it would be the last of it and I've never regretted it (in fact I am so much happier since I did it!), but now this has brought it all spiralling down into a pile of crap again :(

What do I do? who do I contact? Im looking forward to building my credit scoring up again after such a long time (when I get discharged of course) but are they always gonna have this right to reopen old debts?

  • It will still show as a live debt while you are undischarged. The debt isn't written off as it were until the date of your discharge. However the debt is not your problem to deal with so do pass the letter on to your OR. I found it useful to email the company and told them (remind them) of the BR as well just for clarity.

You start to clean up your credit files after your discharge so I wouldn't worry yet about dates of defaults etc.
