Why should your debt be written off!!!

Ok i'm going to receive alot of hate mail but I dont care this is my view and i'm entitled to it.

Before I start I am no preacher who stays within his income. At one point I had £33000 of debt and I kbnow how stressful and bad it can make life feel.

However I got myself in that situation by overspending and living the live I couldnt afford. I got to the point where my outgoings were more than my incomings.

However I did not enter a DMP or bankrupt myself and get the either some of all of the debt written off. I got myself into it so i wanted to get myself out of it. Fair enough I had a property at the house so against all advice I sold up and cleared my debyt.. I lost my biggest asset.. but I am debt free and paid the price for overspending.

It really does annoy me when so many people buy and spend more than they can afford then expect it all just to go away and get written off. By all means I agree with DMP but the full debt should be paid anf not writted of after 5 years.

Why do I feel like this... well i lost my house to pay my debt back yet so many just want it written off because they can no longer affored the payments. WELL YOU SHOULD NOT GET YOURSELF INTO THAT SITUATION IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!! i always new if the worst came to the worst i would be able to sell my house, if i didnt have my house then i would NEVER have got myself in the situation in the first place. So as Iam now renting feeling good I paid my debt back I reda these forums with anger that so many people look for the easiest way to get their debt wriiten off. The bad side... no creidt for 6 years!!"!!! so what!!! No doubt you will live a life beyond your means and repeat the whole process again.

I remember the days that Bankrupcy was for business who failed not for people who have 42" plasma TV and nice cars who just cant afford them now.

Life is not easy but its made unfair with so much debt written off.

I do feel for the people who are in the mess, as I said before i've been ther but I do not sympathise with you, you're just looking for an easy way out.

I know this only applies to the minority and there are many people who are doing budgets and sticking to them...well done, believe me when your clear of debt and you've done it yourself it will make you feel so much better and believe me you will never ghet in the same position again. The [people who take the easy option out (DMP) you will never fully appreciate the value of money if you get 60% of your debt written off.

Thanks for reading, stick in the people who are really trying it will come and life will be so much happier. Good lock its hard but worth it.

Most people on DFW DO NOT have the plasmas and luxury holidays. Very few expect the debts to be "written off". And you are confusing a DMP (Debt Management Plan) with IVA.

Taring people with same brush etc.

This subject has been done to death. Blah Blah. Search for other threads on this.

However, well done on shifting your own debts and facing up to your own failings.

Can this thread get closed? It is judgemental, patronising and clearly designed to start a flame war.... As Charlotte said we have heard enough about this before.

I do really wish that people would actually check their facts before sounding off.

I dont actually get the point of your post. You accrued massived debt on the back of being a homeowner, lost your house, your investment and future financial stability and you are proud of that.

Many many people get into debt, payoff their debt and learn a lot about learning to live debt free. If there is an option that can assist in dealing with debt, why should people not use it. You did you sold your house, well the house that belonged to a mortgage company and due to market forces allowed you to live the life of riley and accrue debt.

Bet you will do it all over again

I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

I have noticed that like yourself there has been a number of people this past week actively seeking advice and views over selling thier homes to clear their debts.
I am on benefits, my debts are small compared to some, and were built up whilst working. What I did when I first had to start claiming was call the rent and offer to pay £5 off my arrears till my housing came through, I am still paying £5 a week for what got built up, but I am getting there. I also called Littlewoods, and had them work out a payment plan for six months for me to get clear my arrears with them, and I cancelled my PP with them, which seemed to be what was stopping my balance from ever going down.
The rest I have been able to cover at agreed amounts.
