Feeling very proud

Firstly a bit about me, ive been a single parent for the last 5 years and i work full time, i live with my DD who is 6, my debt problems began when me and my ex partner split up, lets just say he wasnt very accomodating about letting me have stuff from the house, so i had to buy everything from beds to plates. This is where my debt problems started, im quite carefull with money as ive never had much but like everyone else i can splurge occasionally, i had a couple of credit cards / store cards and used these to buy the things we needed, but spent the last few years just paying the minimum payments, add to that a car loan to get a car, as my old one died and i was in debt to the tune of about 12k.

Fast forward to Jan 2007, i had my lightbulb moment, for a couple of months i had been worrying about money, i hadnt been able to make payments on time for a couple of months, and a few cards with the added interest had taken me over the limit incurring more charges, i guess i dont have to explain too much to most of you as youve probably been there !

Today im pleased to say thanks to Moneysaving expert, i am well on my way to becoming debt free, i read all the posts, took all the advice so freely given and started my journey although somewhat quietly :)

Today im pleased to put my debt on the board for the world to see, im pleased ive paid off what to me is a huge chunk, and im on my way.

This my thankyou to all the support you guys can give, to people you dont even know about. That your time helping and supporting others, is read and understood, not just by that poster but others like me who are not quite brave enough to post.

This is what you have all helped me to acheive and i just want to say thanks :j

Well done Spendi - I'm in the same position as you, single parent to 2 children. Hubby left me in debt. It's really difficult trying to cut back and make savings when your living close to the bone so congratulations on your big achievement. Keep it up and you'll be debt free in no time.

i can totally understand where you are coming from, i'm a single parent to a 6 year old DD, my oh left before she was one and kept everything in the house as well, so i was left with no job, no home, no money and a baby to bring up on my own. i known how hard you have had it over the last few years, well done on tackling your debts abd keep going. i totally agree how fantastic the support and advice is from this site, i am now debt free thanks to MSE

again well done and keep up the good work
