Estate Agents and Mortgages

I've been reading here that estate agents are not the best place to get a mortgage.
The reason that I ask is that I've been referred to the mortgage adviser of the estate agent that is selling the house and have read in a previous thread that they can pass on information to each other.
Any thoughts on the matter?

many advisers are employed by the same company as the estate agent so can pass information between them quite legally. Also, the estate agent/adviser will often get an express consent form allowing the information to be passed within the rules.
That said, I dont think you should get your advice from an estate agent adviser as they only have one opportunity to "sell" to you. A local financial services firm will be looking for a long term relationship and will aiming to provide a service that will want you to use them again and perhaps for other things.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
