Start as a glass collector, then a bar hand, then a manager, then an area manager, then a club manager then you will know the answers.

This is the way that many people do it, but I can understand OP's enthusiasm.

You're looking at a minimum of about £60k, plus insurances (my insurance was £28k, for 7 recording studios and 28 staff out of a warehouse; bring in alcohol and you're probably looking more than that)

For the equipment, start here. They've supplied us for a number of years, and they've not let us down yet, however in this industry, you could be looking at just about anything. I've seen buildings in the recording (not live) end of the industry cost £100k to start, whereas our unit (that we paid £300k for) had more than £4m spent on it a few years ago (and then went into administration).

On the club end, we own a bar in London, that had about £80k spent getting it into a reasonable condition, and costs are currently at about £140k for the (nearly complete) refurb. This is making it nice, but leaving a lot of the original bits in there from when we bought it.

First of all you need a business plan. You need some premises, find those first and get the cost of rent, or if you are going to buy a warehouse the cost of buying it. The surroundings, car parking security etc etc. Then there is a matter of planning permission, so you gonna need an architect to make you a blue print of what you intend to do, apply for planning permission which will take you several months. If you have a million in the bank I think you can pull it off providing you can get planning permission and licences for selling alcohol and staying open late at night. Its not an easy task if you do not know the night club scene, but its not impossible. You need to do some research. you are going to need a good year to get up and running, so from today you could be looking at next year before its open. Research is the key there are lots of things to research before you get your dream off the ground.

Not sure how much they would be, but from working in a nightclub, I've heard business rates and waste disposal cost quite a bit, and many local and city councils have plans in the pipeline or already being brought in to charge clubs and bars for night time policing in the area.

  • Budget maybe £100,000 or more for soundproofing a warehouse to comply with noise abatement regulations.
