yep, im in same situation, would like to know what happens, as ive had AP for about 4 years now !! and at this rate will have for another 7 till its paid off and then stay on for another 6 years after that, doesnt seem right to me? maybe pay as much off it then take it off AP ? OR just stop paying them for a while till they default? really dont know what to do either??

  • As others have noted, the more you pay them each month, the higher the interest rate charged.

I'm down to £996 now and they've just put another 2% on the interest so I'm tempted to scrape together as much as i can and ask for a F&F (my account was transferred from EGG and i had the DMP in place before hand - EGG didn't charge interest at all).

I'll watch with interest to see how others get on with them :)

Barclaycard aren't charging me interest on the one they took over from Egg, but egg had already acccepted 0% interest. But this one i want to shift and am having issues with is the ex Goldfish one which they now run.

I have got to the point of thinking of just skimping drastically for the next 2 months and getting rid of them. I am so sick of their "goodwill gesture interest rate" and them adding funds onto the account while im trying my hardest to pay it off. And then yes have another 6 yrs of AP marked on my account.

Once its paid off i will be writing to them to sort the AP markers out if they will. Will also be interested to see how people get on :)
  • I have written to them although my debt has been sold on to Cabot so I'm not sure if I should have written to them. The problem with Cabot is that they are putting green markers on but I now have a couple lates as either they or payplan screwed up, so here we go, 6 years again. I want this account defaulted in 2010 so whatever happens, it will disappear with the rest of them.

Will let you know how I get on but it could be a long journey I think. If they won't put on the default, I will make them do it by stopping payments. The account is from the mid 90's so probably unenforceable anyway. If they want to play rough, I'm happy to go along with them.

I have barclaycard which they charge a lower interest rate on and an egg card which was taken over by them which they charge no interest on, I was thinking of trying to pay off some of my smaller debts but I thought they (barclaycard) might put up interest rate if I did so I am just trying to save some money so that I can offer Full and Final settlements

  • Hi Everyone

I had 3 Credit Cards and a loan with Barclaycard at the beginning of my DMP.
They accepted the DMP repayment on all 3 Credit Cards and also froze interest to 0%.
They have since sold one Credit Card to Cabot and I have recently managed to pay one off in full.
They recently reintroduced interest at a reduced rate on my remaining Credit Card and wouldn't agree to freeze it again ! so as the balance is fairly low compared to my other debts I now cover the interest myself. I know that this isn't advised by Step change, but I would rather struggle that little bit more and sort of play Barclaycard at their own game, as IMO they are trying to keep us in debt for as long as possible, other threads here have also suggested that the interest rate increases as the balance drops.

Anna thats exactly my thoughts too, I have many creditors in the £100 range and i could shift these 1 by 1 soon, but the more creditors i pay off the more Barclaycard get each month, but this means they keep bumping up the interest.

So im now trying to save £650 in 2 months by selling anything and everything and really restricting my car use, and my spends just so i can get rid of Barclaycard 1st! Fed up of them now :(
  • I have also come to the conclusion that it's best to save up a lump sum and go for settlements on all debts or none of them. For someone like me on a 20 odd year DMP, there is little point in paying off individual debts. They are charging me no interest and any spare income would just have to be distributed to the rest of them. In the short term that does't help me. I am if the view that its better to put any extra away and try to get a lump sum together to pay them all in one go.
  • Hi everyone

Anyone tried requesting a F&F or similar to credit card debt which has never defaulted, never missed a payment, never been late? Was just thinking it may as well brought up.

I've just cancelled my DMP with CCCS or whatever they are calling themselves these days.. I have 2 creditors which were never on plan back in 2007 when it started and both balances are relatively small £1k on. Barclaycard, £2k on Hsbc and a original DMP'r £4k on Bank of Scotland.

I'm all rather new to this F&F and even using forums so any advice would be greatly received I just want shot of them now. It's been too long!

    Looking forward to any responses.
