That's subject to the company that is running the training courses of course and I assume that you are referring to the one that you mention.

JoeK, I dont think your reason fits in with the OP's

Getting bored and not being able to afford a course does not mean it is not fit for purpose, and as far as im aware these are not valid reasons to complain under the TDA.

    Point taken Tom.

Well I must be thick but the fact that the course is out of date is a bit of a problem eh guys?

I am sure people mean advice in the best way but having had a wide experience of Computeach", believe me he is not the only one complaining. There is a yahoo group set up with THOUSANDS of compalints about them and their practices.

Better to get full facts before replying sometime though!

I assure you Tom188 that getting bored is not one of the reasons for trying to cancel the course. £75 per month is a lot of money to lose when you realise that the course is going nowhere, this is after I called them to find out that the course I am signed up for had an exam last month and I am told to just start again on the 2006 objectives. I feel as though I have just wasted 4 months of study.
  • Thanks guys for the responses. Some of them have hit the nail on the head and maybe this is a bigger issue than I first thought. Surely 14 days for a cooling off period for this type of loan is not long enough as it takes longer than that to send off the first TMA. At first I thought the course was good but when I read so many negative experiences of what the company is actually about, it leaves a sour taste.
    They obviously saw me coming.

On the basis that it is not fit for the purpose.

Trade Descriptions Act would be a good place to start.

Had a narrow escape with Computeach about 10 years ago, when I'd realised I'd signed up for a loan agreement at exhorbitant interest to finance the so-called 'course'. I managed to cancel within the cooling off period, or I'd probably still be paying the loan off now.

I then found the course I wanted at the local college part-time at night and it was really enjoyable and I passed, it was also peanuts in comparison to the Computeach course.

I'd steer clear of all these so-called training companies.

My partner cancelled within the 14 days. and we didnt realise it but they were still taking £40 per month payment out from octoer 2005 up untill 2007 and he had never even received any course materials etc. we have paid in total £3,000 for a course that he has never started because it wsa showing as a default when we applied for a mortgage! we've now written them a letter re small claims court - which I know we'll end up doing - but we are fine with that - we're getting out money back of the robbing robbers! The way we have been treated over the phone by computeach is just unbelieveably awful! just couldnt understand that there are companies out there that still talk to you in such a rude and uncooperative way. even higher members of staff. anyone managed to get a refund of them through small claims?
  • I started a course with ICS and realised it wasn't for me and also the £120 a month payments were a bit much.

I phoned them and they too have the 14 day cooling off period so they wouldn't let me cancel. I moved it onto a 0% credit card to reduce the monthly payments, but I'll have to make sure I remember to pay it off in time.

I have paid £1400 for a course I have never done. Makes me annoyed but it's my own fault I suppose.

Course was my second choice too, should have stuck with the OU one, they seem to be a little more understanding.

A relative of mine used to work for Computeach, until she was sacked for trying to deprive the company of money:eek: . She has no teaching qualifications and has only ever worked in catering:confused:
Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p

  • Hi,

I'm on a Computeach course at the moment, working towards the MCDBA. I have passed the IC3 (though not officially, as despite paying £150 a month I would have to pay an admin fee of 25 quid for certification!!!) and had an introduction to the A+ course. I didn't find this introduction relevant to the career course I wanted to take (The A+ is all about Hardware and Networks, I want to focus on software). I contacted Computeach, concerned that I was paying for a module that didn't have any relevance to my intended goal of the MCDBA. I was informed that Microsoft are withdrawing the MCDBA course and that they had moved me to another course, apparently equivalent. However, they didn't inform me of this and it has angered me that what I signed up for has been removed. Is this a case of being mis-sold a course? Have they breached their contract agreement as the service I signed up for no longer exists?

Aside from this issue, I have found Computeach to be a complete rip off. I'm paying £150 a month for what, ostensibly, seems to be two arch lever files and two CD roms. I'd advise anyone considering it to avoid it like the plague. I'll be glad to be rid of them.

    Jed
