Wheaty bag or an alternative needed.

I have problems with pain in my knees sometimes. Someone suggested that I should try Wheaty bag which you can get from Boots etc. You simply heat it up in the microwave and then place the bag on your knee etc. Or you can use a hot water bottle etc.

Went to Boots and found that the price for one bag is over £6. A hot water bottle costs more than £4 there.

Have read on a website that you can use white rice in a cloth as an alternative. Was wondering if anyone had made their own version. How can you make sure that the fabric you use is suitable for heating in microwave? Was thinking of using an old pillow case or maybe a sock.
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

  • Poundland sometimes have hot water bottles in? Or Asda/Tesco?

I've got one from Robert Dyas which is a long thin shape, good for aching muscles. It's out of stock on their website though

I got mine from a branch of the Works, wher they were selling two for £5 - I'm not sure if you could buy them individually.

I've seen these wheat bags in B&M for £1 or £2. I do hope you can find one - mine is invaluable when my arthritis is playing up!

IMO don't apply heat unless specifically advised to by a physiotherapist or fitness professional specialising in injuries or a doctor. Heat can actually increase inflammation so will worsen many joint complaints.

I agree, for my knee problems I found cold compresses to be more effective.
Though to be honest I would be reluctant to follow any treatment plan from a friend/what you've read online, even if for a similar problem because different conditions can have similar symptoms yet require different treatment.
