Remortgaing Blues

Hi

We've had a fixed mortgage with C & G for 2 years and been happy. We now want to change to another deal and borrow some extra fo home improvements.

C & G will only offer a fixed mortgage of £5.59% for the amount outstanding and some homeowner loan at their variable for the extra. Then charge £199 to change! So it looks like We'll be changing. Oh and C & G will get £225 closing fee.

So I'm looking for a fixed mortgage (with extra for home improvements) for 5 years with the least fees and so far Alliance & leicester look pretty good. The loan value ratio even with extra is less than 50%.

Anyone no of any other lenders I should check out?

Cheers

John

  • Yes I've looked into it a bit and slowly getting a feel of waht to look for.

I've decided on a fixed 5 yr. The dificulty is comparing the offers as they give details for the full term and there seems to be not hidden but hard to see chrges you need to take into account.

Anyway I've also taken up Capital ones free mortgage advice offer and I'll see what they come up with.

I was just wondering if anyone new of any good 5 yr deals without horrible charges.

    Cheers

You don't give any figures, so difficlut to make sure on eligibility, but there are other comparable rates out there some cheaper some more expensive all with different fees.
What loan amount are you looking for? what income multiple do you need? Do you want flexibility? Do you want to overpay? DO you want offset?

What fees are there on the A&L deal you have found?

As you can see these are just a few questions that can be asked.

https://www.moneyfacts.co.uk has a mortgage search facility that allows "true cost comparisons" over a user-defined period. Remember to ensure that your redemption/legal/valuation fees are factored in.

The link below should take you to the data entry screen. If not, enter via the main site above.

  • John, I've just taken a 2 year fixed rate with the following. I wish I'd taken 5 years now though

For a five year its 5.04% and £349 arrangement fee which covers your solicitors fees and survey!

How fast does the mortgage market move? ie would you expect a product to stay available for a month? three months? a year?
