The reason we think it is worth a 'bit more' are the 'extras' like death in serivice, spousal pension etc.

Also, given this thread has morphed. I have to say (as a non FS/AS pension person, don't recall ever paying any attention to projections as they aren't worth the ink to write them down much less use them

I've a frozen stakeholder pension and an active civil service pension. One reports on pot size and the latter by projections. I'm calculating what I'll need to live on in retirement but cant seem to reconcile the two formats to know if I need to top up with AVC's.

So if projections are less than useful then I'm unsure how I can do the sums needed.

A stakeholder pension cannot be frozen.

That is because the only thing they have in common is a bit of legislation and the name pension.

The defined benefit pension is easy as it gives you the figure in todays terms if you remain in employment with them to scheme age.

The defined contribution pension has a lot of variables. However, the annual statement should give you an indication and if you use the mid rate, it should be a fair guide.

By "frozen" stakeholder you mean that you are no longer contributing?
Since the value of the investment within the plan goes up and down the value at pension age can only be a projection?
