Halifax - How rude

I had a call from my local Halifax branch regarding mortgages (5 years discharged, 6 years since bankrupt this summer and should with my boyfriend have around £100K as a deposit). I have put a complaint in as the advisor made me feel quite rubbish. She said Halifax will never lend to me EVER and that I would find it quite hard to get a mortgage with any lender. I then said I know Skipton do deal with discharged bankrupts and she said 'they are not local so how can you apply'...seriously? I said urm of course I can, over the phone as you do not have to go into a branch to apply!
Anyway, I felt quite upset about how she had spoken to me so I phoned Halifax direct, who said they would not dismiss me, so it is not a difinate no-no to getting a mortage with them, but they would look at all the factors at the time of applying.
So just a word of warning, do not believe what your local branch tells you!

When I went on an IVA in June last year, Halifax were a constant bloody buisance. When the IVA was approved, they kept foning me every day and I shouted and screamed at them down the fone not to contact me due to the IVA. Then the thieving bastids took monies from my account without my permission as a default charge. Then when the IVA got aproved, again the bastid up it from a standard 5 year IVA to a 6 year IVA holding me to bloody ransom!!
Halifax in my eyes irresponsibly lent me money in the first place without checking affordability etc etc.
I know how you feel, and I will NEVER bank with Halifax again!!0 -
Hi Eve 1975,
I read an interesting article over the weekend in the Daily Mail .. If you look it up on line and click into the Money section .. it was about obtaining mortgages post BR (I'd post the link but am rubbish with that sort of thing ) .. The crux of it was things aren't all doom and gloom and in the comments section folk who were obviously mortgage advisors had stated that they had arranged mortgages for clients with large deposits 2 years post BR. Might be worth a read.0 -
Call her back tomorrow and tell her that you spoke to her head office to compain about the way she spoke to you and they completely dismissed everything she'd said.
Then suggest that she works on her telephone/customer skills.
And then hang up and don't give it another second's thought
"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
I read the Daily Mail so will take a look. Thanks. Funny thing is my boyfriend currently has his mortage with Halifax, but she was still snooty. I think Skipton and Nationwide are looking better bets at present.0

..and YBS.
Sod Halifax - they wasted 3 weeks of our time with an AIP that never came to fruition.

YBS....? Is that Yorkshire buildings society? I'm looking for a bank/BS for a mortgage.
I can't get a mortgage with natonwide, I've been with them nearly 8 years, And discharged from bankruptcy 7.7 years now and they refused me a decision in principle lol.
I can't believe the OP has a MASSIVE 100K deposit and halifax still said no, !!!!!!... That's just crazy!  :shocked:0 -
Yep! Yorkshire Building Society. Good call FB I had forgotten about them.
I can believe it of Halifax, they hate and detest BR's. One of the worst.BSCno.87The only stupid question is an unasked oneLoving life as a Kernow Hippy0 -
Halifax, yes I remenber Halifax. They were the ones who pushed me into bankruptcy.
At the time I was self employed - but my work dried up. I also had serious health problems at the time.So I had big problems. I spoke to all my creditors, mostly credit card companies, and most of them were ok.
All except one ....... Halifax .
All the others helped, reduced payments, payment " holidays " for a few months or even intrest freezing. But not Halifax. They simply refused any help or concession. And they were incredibly nasty too. I had a guy who used to phone me, a collections manager type. He would phone me three to four times a week. He was very rude, aggressive, and even threatening. At the time I was desperately trying to avoid bankruptcy. But he,they, pushed me into it. I had no choice.
But the irony is this, if they had aggreed to my request for help, reduced payments or such, I would have continued and payed them. In time I would have payed them, and my other creditors off in full.As it was I never payed them a penny more. How absurd is that ?0
