Reclaiming admin fees from renting (Scotland)

I think this may be Scotland only, but if you've been charged any form of admin fee for renting a property in the last 5 years you can reclaim it. Shelter Scotland have an online toolkit here: http://www.reclaimyourfees.com

I sent two letters to the letting agent and got told fees were legal, then sent a small claims summons and got an offer this morning to refund £120 paid :)

The law has recently been clarified, but it has always been illegal - don't let letting agents tell you otherwise!

  • Thats good to know.

Im just in the process of waiting for a response after sending my second letter.

Did you have to pay the fee to the court to raise the summons, and did they refund that?

Ive just looked and as the amount is more than £200 the fee is £69, which is quite steep.
