Beware of Equifax

Ok, just thought I should warn people, and can't find it anywhere else in the forums, but i'm a newbie so might have missed it...
I signed up to equifax to look at my credit report on their free 30 day trial less than 30 days ago...
Phoned them up today on an 0845 number
as they will not let you cancel online...First they tried to offer me the service for £3.99 (useful to know if you want it, but don't want to pay £8.99 a month).
I said, not thanks, just cancel it. The lady then went on to say that they don't like to leave their customers unaware, so I will continue to receive alerts if anything changes on my credit file for a year, but would have to sign up again in the future or pay the one off £2 fee to look at it once in the future to check it. At this point I'm thinking oh wow, that's quite good as I haven't paid them anything yet....and then the lady says, if you like this, after a year you will start getting charged £2.99 a month for it to continue! and they will automatically start taking payments from the card you first used to create the account!
I had to argue with her for about 10 minutes to say no I did not want the 'free' alerts and I do not agree to Equifax ever taking money out of my account, unless I buy one of the £2 credit reports when I want one.
Just a warning for anyone thinking about singing up to them to get a credit report as they will try to get money out of you somehow! It might just be easier to pay the £2 for a one off report if you don't need to check yours that often

Obviously its too late for you LH, but for anyone reading this post in future there is also a normal phone number you can try which can work out cheaper on some mobile tariffs - though obviously not as good as experian's freephone.Plus note down how to cancel: To request cancellation, call 0844 335 0550 (020 7298 3000, and asking for customer services can also work). Quote your product reference.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0

I cancelled my thing with them with ease. They are terrible, even a free Noddle report is better than Equifax."All truths are easy to understand once they are discovered, the point is to discover them."

Did they eventually agree not to give the free alerts for a year followed by charging you?0 -
Yes, eventually the woman said ok, I have cancelled your account and have not processed the request for 'free' alerts.....I will be keeping an eye on my emails to see if I get anything through for them.
Wish I'd known about the other number to phone, I obviously didn't search hard enough!
That'll teach me :doh:0
