Hello all,
I recently posted on here about car ins following BR.. looks like i may have found a policy for under £500, so won't need to declare br.. fingers crossed we can pay monthly.. just need tio wait for current policy to end. I have not told current policy providers about BR as could not see anywahere in T&C's stating that I should tell them.
House insurance - I am going to call Halifax today re. insurance but cannot see anywhere in their T&C's that I need to tell them about BR.. so annoying.... thing is we are still paying buildings on a property that is going to be repocessed any day now.. chances are we may not have to pay this much longer.. Want to keep contents, its only cheap so don't mind if they cancel it.
Have read our BR terms and its not too clear to me.. maybe being a bit thick
It says about obtaining credit over £500, so understand why you have to tell car ins as this is kind of clssed as a loan, when taking a new policy
I have been on U Switch to try and save a little on Gas and Elec.. do these kind of companies credit check or am I best off sticking with same supplier.. don't want to make things messy!!
Any advice would be great - thanks x

Just from my experiences, I was able to switch gas, electric, and broadband with ease. I'm fairly sure they didn't do a credit check because I was able to apply online and was just treat like a 'normal' customer
I have my home insurance with the co-op, I had to ring them but they overrided the 'can't pay monthly because you're bankrupt' option, so that was handy!
I switched my gas and electric to Scottish Power, and my broadband to Plusnet, so all those worth a look.
One big tip I have though, is TopCashBack. I, like you, looked through USwitch to see who would be cheapest, then I went on TopCashBack to see what deals they were doing.
I got paid £70 for switching my gas and elec, and £40 for switching my broadband. It takes a couple of months for the money to be paid into your bank account but it's free money!!0 -
As CIGW I had no trouble changing suppliers whilst still BR, I also used a casback site when doing so.:pB&SC No. 298

Halifax are gits, I had my bank account & savings accounts with them & home insurance with the parent company of Lloyds. All my bank accounts are frozen & will be closed on the date of discharge, no negotiation even though I had no debts with them, have been a customer for years & managed my account with no problems & Lloyds cancelled my insurance when I phoned them. I managed to get a last week out of them but that was it.
In the T&C there is a reference to 'if your financial position changes', they don't mention bankruptcy outright but its inferred.0 -
Thanks for the replies..
Didn't call Halifax today, trying to find out if pocession has been taken of our previous house so then will know what to do about buildings insurance.. emailed solicitors who were dealing with it so we will see. To be honest I am expecting Halifax to cancel the policies.
With the car insurance - I will need to re-read the T&C's re. financial position.. really don't want them to cancel policy just now as there is a claim pending.. we have an ok quote from another insurer but need to get this claim sorted before changing.. oh what to do!!
Think we will switch over on utilities as looks like there is a decent saving to be had, which wil be good :00 -
\hi my car insurance is with Aviva and in their t and c it says a claim will not be paid if br!!!
I rang them and its ok as I had told them upfront.....be aware0 -
Re. our car ins claim - this happened in Nov 2012 and we went BR in Feb 13,so this was prior to BR. I would be very suprised if they said no to paying out because of the BR... well I hope that would be the case!!0

Sorry, another quick question.... if we don't hear from solicitors re. pocession of property that we left (hearing was 14 Feb - after BR), Is is ok for me to just call OR to ask if they know what is happening??0

Hi, Halifiax have just confirmed that I can continue to pay contents monthly, buildings is fine too, although due for renewal next month so only 1 x payment to go. I just need to find out if Natwest have a pocession order for the house to see if we will need to keep paying...0
