Can the OR seize goods from your home after the Bankruptcy hearing?

Just wondering if anything can be taken from my partners home following bankruptcy? We don't know what to expect.... Would this already have happened prior to the hearing??

    No. Don't panic!

The OR is not interested in normal household goods. Re-sale value on these secondhand items (as they will be if they took them) are worth next to nothing - far more in admin costs than value which is why is does not happen.

Of course, if the OR discovers that you have gold bullion or an antique book collection etc, then they would make arrangements to collect those.

But no one will turn up on your doorstep.
  • Thankyou so much for your response.
  • The OR took my kelloggs crunchy nut cornflakes :-(

    They are ludicrously tasty.

My advise is eat yours before the interview.
  • The OR has said he will seize my partners personalised number plate... He'll accept between 250 and 350 for it... This has made us nervous about other possessions he has. Would they seize clothing?
  • Exempt property

    clothes are exempt
  • Is that because the resale of them would generate very little?

More likely that they are seen as part of allowing a BR a 'reasonable standard of living?'

BR is not a criminal act, and in no way is it intended to be any sort of punishment.

[We stopped using Newgate Debtor's prison a few years ago]

Also, the BR of one individual is not about 'punishing' the rest of their family.

{hence, for example, a 'holiday' allowance?]
