Mortgages Abroad

Just two quick questions, if you are discharged from your BR in the UK

1. Can you get a mortgage abroad?
2. Are your UK credit files checked when applting in a different country?

    Once discharged from bankruptcy, you are free to apply for credit, including mortgages, anywhere you choose. This does not, however, mean that you will get the best deals, as your ankruptcy will remain on your credit file for 6 years.
    As far as overseas lenders checking out your UK credit history, this would appear to be a bit of a lottery. Many overseas Financial Institutions are linked to UK Banks/Building Societies and MAY carry out UK credit searches. However many posters have found no problem in obtaining credit abroad.
