woohoo i saved ££££

well i was feeling pretty miserable about the whole budgeting thing yesterday, but i ordered the shopping online last night for next week and i saved money. I budget £160 a month for food and i split that to 4 shops a month £40 each shop. WEll i have just ordered the 3rd one this month and there is still £60 of the food money left. So next week if i order the same as this week there will be £27 left from the food budget to go towards my debts.

It gave me such a buzz (sad really)

  • Hi Lynda

Well done! I wish I could do it all for that much! How have you done it, and how many people are you feeding? I really need help on the food thing, so any pointers from a success like you would be great!

luckily i am only feeding myself, my OH and my 3 cats. I bought asdas own brand stuff where possible, even went as far as buying a few smartprice things like baked beans (all taste the same), coleslaw and garden peas. Also i firstly looked in the special offers section on the website and i base my weekly meals on what is on offer! my cats take up a lot of that money, i have to buy 15 cans of cat food and 20 litres of cat litter on that shopping. i also managed to buy 4 2 litre bottles of diet coke, as its £2 a bottle to buy in another shop.

    hope this helps

  • You did really well if you were buying cat 'stuff' too! Ive got a baby, so I suppose nappys etc would probably balance out against your catfood, so I should be able to do it too!

Did you do the shopping on-line every week? I have thought of doing it to stop me being tempted at all the 3 for 2 etc offers which I dont really need, but it seems that spending a fiver for delivery would outweigh the savings? Also, did you do meal plans etc so you knoew exactly everything you needed before you start? again, this is something I really need to do!

Arent we sad - getting all excited at saving a few pounds on the shopping? Its addictive though, isnt it??:rotfl: :rotfl:

i do the shopping online everyweek as it stops me picking up things that i dont really need.

i do mealplan as i am also on a diet so it benefits me to plan what i am going to eat.

you do have to pay for delivery BUT there are days that are cheaper, wed is ony £3 something and as we dont have a car anymore i would have to pay for a taxi home to get the shopping home so it balances out for me

I'm not sure which board exactly it is, but have a look over at the shopping boards on MSE and I think they often have codes for free delivery, certainly for Tesco, not sure about the others.

Would be a way of saving that extra few quid each week on delivery and giving you even more to chuck at the debts!

I think shopping is one of the easiest ways to save some money.

I certainly am guilty of adding bits to the trolly and falling prey to the impulse buys - which can add a fair bit to your bill.

One tip from me is if you have to go to the shops to get your shgopping leave the kids at home !!! Mine are awful for adding things to the triolly when I am not looking :)

    Well done Lynda !!!!

    Hi Lynda.

I just wanted to add that you are *not* sad....you are just realising that you can make changes and you can throw money at debts. It's quite addictive and you feel rewarded.

Watching you debts shrink is really really good for your morale so keep going and keep reporting back on your successes....we love 'em around here you know. :)
