Hello everyone
Well I have saved up the money for my fee, opened a basic barclays account yesterday and am now ploughing my way through the forms!
I understand that I should ring the court to make an appointment to file and then turn up with my fee and forms. Is that right?
I have a question about whether I can keep my car or not? I think it is worth around the £1000 - £1200 mark, but where would I find an accurate valuation that the OR would accept? I had to give up work and become a full time carer for my husband last September. I now recieve carers allowance. Although I am not working I use the car for all my husbands hospital appointments, he needs to take sedatives before his treatments so is unable to drive. The treatment also lowers his immune system so if he develops a temperature and is unwell, we have to immediately get to the hospital asap. Would this be considered as a valid reason for me to keep my car?
Also what paperwork will the OR need, and at what stage is it required?
I have posted a question previously on here about being a director of a company in the last 5 years. I was a director for a short time of a family company which has since been dissolved. I am just a little worried as I don't want my relatives to know about my bancruptcy, does anyone know what happens regarding this?
I have filled out the part about my incomings and outgoings, there is a surplus of £18.20 per month. Will I receive an IPA for this amount?
Sorry so many questions! Hope someone can help.

Hello there.
Given the vehicle's value it's quite possible that you should be able to keep it. The OR has the final say, of course, but we've had plenty of other clients able to keep their vehicles of a similar value.
The OR will undertake a thorough fact-find, this will include complete a comprehensive financial statement. They may ask for further information on an adhoc basis, they won't ask any difficult questions, they are very understanding and professional.
You can't be a director whilst you are undischarged - which is the year that you are technically 'bankrupt'. There is a public register of insolvencies that anyone can search, in reality the majority of the people that know of its existence only do so as they've come across it in their course of employment - or have been/currently are insolvent themselves.
I can't see an IPA being set up for £18!
Best wishes,

Here's a guide to what the OR interview will be like:

Thank you David - your comments are very helpful.
Mattanar - regarding the use of taxis, the hospital where my husband receives treatment for cancer, is several miles away from our home and the cost would be extremely high.0 -
If this is your argument for keeping the car, then the OR may ask you for details.
How often does your husband go to the hospital and how much is a return trip by taxi?
You will have to weigh this up with how much you are going to hopefully claim in allowances for the car. With insurance, tax, repairs and fuel this can be well over £100 a month.
To be honest I am trying to help , the more info you have , will help give you a better argument for keeping the car.
The OR will probably let you keep the car because of its low value, but the OR may not give you any allowances if he/she does not think you warrant any.
Because I know when my mum had cancer she went to the hospital once a week for chemo for about 6/7 weeks at a time , then no visits for about 2-3 months.0
