Set aside CCJ on statute barred debt

Hello this is the first time that I have asked a question on this forum.Recently we recieved a letter from Global Debt Recovery stating that we owe over £8000 and to contact them which my wife did.She was told by a rather obnoxious chap that it was to TSB dating back to 1990 for a loan from them and the last payment was made in 1997 and prior to that a CCJ was issued no payments have been made since. My wife did not acnowledge the debt and promply hung up on this horrible man.I was wonderind if anybody could help me understand where I stand with this it is so long ago(17 years) I would have thought the bank would have just written it off and does it get covered by statute barring including the CCJ as it was never chased after.
I think you would be best making a new thread as it will focus people on the real situation.
I cant be of much help with an answer but the chap at Global your refering too, was his name James White by any chance ?

Yes, if their address is in New Malden, Surry then its the same company.
I was on the phone to him for well over an hour going round in circles.
A quick google search shows up loads of unhappy people where the person on the other end was rude and would be quite happy to pass judgement on their personal lives and make comments about their family.
He is either a one man band or a very very small outfit. Stand your ground with him and go down the SB route and try and get the CCJ set aside.
You may need to speak with the court about this, I dont know unfortunatly as I have no experance.
My advice with Global, try not to get involved in an argument on the phone with them, he will argue and he will be obnoxious but make sure you communicate, he will have no problems in breaching OFT guidlines to get his resut if he thinks your ignoring him.
