Its not my debt

A colleague at work has owned his house for the last 5 years but the previous owner keeps giving his address as point of contact.
He rang up the debt collection agency but because he is not the account owner they are not prepared to discuss it
What can he do to get this changed so he is not being hassled for some one elses debt?

There's not a lot he can do, other than return any post 'not at this address'.

The problem is the previous owner is giving his address as a contact even recently.
If thats the case i will let him know0 -
Does the previous owner ever go round to get his post?0

nope, he has not lived there for five years, so is just using it as a postal address so the debt collectors dont come to his residence, and my friend does not know his current address0

Return all mail as 'Not Known at this Address' is about all you can do. Tell the debt collectors to take a hike but be aware that they could execute a sneaky CCJ or charging order on his property, so keep an eye on what comes in. Theoretically they shouldnt because he is not the named debtor, but it is possible.Debt Free! Long road, but we did it

is your friend on the electoral register? it would help as proof that he/she is living there now. then just send all letters back with 'not known at this address' in big red letters on the front.
i've had to do this a few times and they eventually stopped.Mortgage-Free WannabeMortgage at start [20/6/12]: £151,800/MFD Jun 2035 (age 65)Mortgage now [5/11/14]: £139,212.14/MFD Oct 2029 (age 59)Personal Library 2014:starmod: Read in 2014: 57/60 :starmod: In Progress: 2 :starmod: Books In: 94 :starmod: Books Out: 12 :starmod: TBR: 847 :starmod:0 -

I have had a few instances of debt mail for previous owners, so I open mail for the previous owners and deal with it according to the contents. You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'0
