Hi, newbie here. I originally started reading these forums in 2011 when we were struggling with around £50,000 worth of debt. Since then I have entered in to a DMP with StepChange but I am still useless with money and I need to change.
I'm currently a SAHM to my 3 year old DD and my 1 year old DS. I am looking for work around 16 hours a week. My husband is a self employed window fitter however he has sub-contracted with the same company for almost a year now.
We currently manage on DH's income however I have recently applied for job seekers so hopefully this with allow us to put a bit of money aside as we currently have nothing in case of emergencies (for example our boiler is on it's way out I think).
We have set out DMP down very low while I am looking for work so it is currently over 23 years. I hope to increase the amount however once I am in work
Hmm not sure what else to say really. I need to pull my finger out and stop spending. I don't really know where to start! Will have a read of some other diaries I think x

Well I guess I'm officially counting today as day one on my journey to get better with money. I did a shop at Aldi yesterday that I'm hoping will last around a week and a half. It was £54 without any meat (I get this at the butchers) which I think is quite high for Aldi but I definately think I should be able to go a week and a half or possibly even two weeks with just buying meat and bread/fruit/veg top ups. I'm sorted for nappies for a while so that'll save me a bit on the next couple of shops. I'm gonna have a look through here and see what I can do to cut costs etc. I like the idea of taking money out on pay day and just having it in envelopes. I need to get in to the frame of mind that once it's gone it's gone and I'm definately not that in that mind set currently. OH gets paid weekly so if I run out of petrol for example I'm just gonna have to stay in till the next Friday.
Taking the kids for a walk round a pic park/bird garden today. It'll be £7.50 for the three of us to get in which I still think is quite steep but we're taking a picnic so there shouldn't be any other costs once we are therex
Will report back later
