RBS Mortgage Sealing Fee

I'm due to end my mortgage with RBS soon (moving house and changing to new lender) and RBS have quoted me a charge of £225 as a sealing fee and deeds release fee.

Looking thru my original mortgage offer and the small print from when I took the mortgage out in 2000, I can't find anything relating to costs that I would incur when the mortgage is repayed. What I do have is a copy of their current Ts&Cs that state 'the charges will be whatever they were at the time of taking the mortgage out' or words to that effect.

Here comes the question, how do I stop them charging me what is obviously the current rate of £225 when I have no written details of what the original cost was?

    Hi

Your best action, is to look at your initial offer of loan, which should mention the cost of the fees If the fee is lower, than the one you mentioned, you have good chance of claiming

I am in the same situation, checked the contract 10x over and cant find it. It says something along the lines of 'there will be a fee to close the mortgage' but doesnt specify the fee....
