Gambling has 'users' in a grip every bit as tight as heroin or cocaine and maybe even more compelling. Not that I've tried any of them.

I have a friend who is a recovering compulsive gambler. He told me "you will cheat, lie, and steal even from those nearest and dearest to you to get that gambling money "

I think it is a national scandal that sport, notably football, is now so heavily backed by all the gambling organisations you care to name. So we got rid of tobacco advertising, and the next seedy scumbag parasite moves in on the territory.

Still, we have to keep our poncy footballers with a weekly supply of new Ferraris, don't we.
