HI, I want to make my own custard. DD is 8months old and is on a dairy free diet. She has a formula soya milk that I use to make cheese sauce and such like. But how do I make custard?

You could blend silken tofu, soy milk and the flavouring of your choice - soft fruits or sugar.
Tofu is ok for babies from 8 months
Or another dairy-free recipe here: http://www.swallowtail.org/nondairy/custard.shtmlTwins, twice the laughs, twice the fun, twice the mess!:j:j0 -
Sorry, I'm a lazy one and use Bird's custard powder.
I'm not sure if it contains dairy. wouldn't think so as you add the milk....I lost my job as a cricket commentator for saying “I don’t want to bore you with the details”.Milton Jones0 -
Hi andy,
If the soya milk you are using works in cheese sauce it should work in the recipe on this thread:
HM custard (no more Birds custard powder)
Alternatively try Math's recipe on this thread:
Can you make custard without custard powder? (Proper custard)
There are also a few threads on making custard with eggs, but I'm assuming that your daughter won't be able to tolerate eggs. If you want me to look them out for you, let me know.

Custard powder is dairy free. You could just use the soya formula in place of cows milk. I always make my custard using soya milk.0
