Hello,
Just invested in an electric steamer, now I need some help with how long to steam stuff for!
Can anyone point me towards a list of times?
Thanks,
Jane

If you have an electric steamer it should have come with a booklet telling you the times!

I usually do spuds for about 30 to 35 mins but it depends on how large the spuds are. Infact I only increase the cooking time to about 40 or so mins if Ihave two or three tiers of veg.
I am on my fourth steamer, I can't remember the last time I boiled some veg!0 -
Hello poppyjane,
I too have recently bought an electric steamer. Food takes a little longer to cook than when using a steamer on a gas hob. Potatoes/carrots around 50 mins, sprouts, broccoli around 20 mins, especially if you are using more than one tray.
HTH but like most things it really is trial and error!:eek:0 -
I love my steamer, mine is a Tefal one and I misplaced the book but I sort of guess timings anyway. Potatoes and carrots take longer, put them at the bottom. A tip I picked up on here was to ur a few eggs in to steam while it's on, hard boiled eggs, perfect.
I also steam chicken breasts, yum, so juicy and tender.
I steam frozen veg aswell as fresh, love it!0
