Renting and job being relocated - dilemma

Hi All
So it would appear that I am now back on the merry-go-round of having to find another property to rent ! ... have found out that my job is being made redundant but have been offered another post in another part of the UK, which I am going to take.
And here is the dilemma ! ... I signed a 12 month Rental agreement back in October 2012, have had various problems with the landlord passing away, then finding damp etc in the house which has now all been sorted out. I can probably just about manage to pay the rent on this place for the remainder of the lease AND pay for another rental. So ......... some questions which worry me :
1. Will I be able to have another lease whilst I stilll have this one running ?
2. Will I be liable for Council Tax whilst the current rented property is empty ?
3. Are there any other major factors that I have omitted ?
I have thought about writing to the new landlord (his son) and asking that I terminate the lease now but bearing in mind this has already been refused in the past, he's hardly likely to be very forthcoming now.
Many thanks in advance - i don't think my stress levels can take much more !

When will you actually start the new job?
And
How far is it from where you are now to the new job location?0 -
Hi OP - You can take on another lease if you like......
It may be worth speaking to the LL, suggesting that you cover any fees to re advertise the property and pay rent UNTIL a new tenant is found.
He cannot charge you rent for the remainder of your lease AND bring in a new tenant, so it may be in his best interests to negotiate.0 -
It would obviously ideal if your current landlord agreed to an early surrender but, if not, could you arrange temp accomodation in the new area (room in shared house or b&b) and commute weekly?0
-
thank you for your advice.
It means relocating approximately 160 miles away  and have seriously thought about renting a room in a shared house Mon-Friday. But of course with the ever increasing costs of fuel consumption etc I don't think I'll be any better off coming back to the current area.
I would like to think that the landlord might take pity on me, afterall, he'll be getting a HB tenant if i can't leave here ! (and he won't want that !)
Where do I stand on the Council Tax payment ???
Many thanks guys0 -

My wife works away most weeks at that sort of distance so the commute isn't impossible.
Sorry to ask again but when do you start the new job? Just trying to establish the maximum amount of time there will be that you might have to cover 'living' in both areas.
Sorry I can't answer the CT question.0 -
I would contact the local Council,, they may agree to let you not pay CT.
One thing to point out to the LL is that CT will only grant a 6 month exemption in any financial year, and if the LL does not have tenant in October, he will have to pay CT ont he empty flat.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

Hi - sorry forgot to mention the new start date - they have said end March early April :eek:0 -
Tell him you are being made redundant and will have to apply for benifits etc.
You could say your mum says you can move back home so does he want to get someone else.
Don't mention the new job make it look as bad as possible.0
