Thanks for any help in advance, I'm not the best at explaining but I'll try my best.
I started work in February 2012 on a fixed term contract till the end of April 2013, it now looks to be extended, however, there isn't going to be any change to anyone's contract regardless of hours and pay.
There were several large groups which all started within months of each other, all on a fixed term contract till the end of April 2013.
The first group/s which started signed contracts to work 35 hours for £15,000.
The next group/s which started signed contracts to work 40 hours for £16,000.
The final group (my group) started and signed contracts for 40 for £15,000 not knowing what other employees were on.
If any more information is needed please ask, but can you confirm with the information provided whether this is legal or not?
I feel it's unfair that I am working more hours for less pay when we all do the same job and started within months of each other. If there's nothing I can do then ill just have to live with it and start looking for a new job, again thanks for any help.
Thanks

Pay is personally negotiated, unless you can prove it is due purely to age, sex, disability, race or other legislated against "ism" then it is perfectly legal for them to pay different rates to different people doing the same job.
As previously pointed out, I have seen people being paid up to £30,000 a year more to do the same job at the same grade on the same hours.0 -

Well that's annoying, it's frustrating getting paid nearly £1 less an hour for doing the exact same job.
Thanks for your help.0 -
Well imagine how those being paid £16/hr less to do the same job are feeling.
At the end of the day you can negotiate a better rate or you can look for work elsewhere that pays a better rate (or just accept you are either (a) more junior or (b) simply not as good at negotiations)0
