Do they have to advertise the job?

Hi all,

My partner is currently studying towards his CompTIA A+ certificates and has been looking at and applying for a couple of trainee/apprenticeship IT positions but nothing as of yet. My mum works in a local high school and asked the IT technicians/teachers if they were considering taking on an apprentice IT technician as a few schools in the area have been advertising recently. They have come back saying they're very keen and are in the midst of looking into it (obviously with my mum working there it puts my partner in quite a good stead - he also used to work with the IT technicians fiance). What I want to know is if this position was formally introduced, would they have to legally advertise externally etc or could they just ask my partner to come in and then offer him the position?

In the private sector it is purely down to the individual organisations policy on if jobs must be advertised internally or externally at all or if direct appointments can be made.

The public sector can be a little different and there are some areas where there is over arching statements that all jobs will be advertised to ensure fairness in the processes.

For apprenticeships there is usually an agreemtent that they vacancy must be advertised on AVMS through National Apprenticeship Service by the training provider.
